Wed 3rd Sep, 2025

Koblenz - Authorities have successfully intervened in a call center fraud scheme that targeted vulnerable individuals. On August 26, 2025, an 86-year-old man residing in Bad Ems received a phone call from individuals claiming to warn him about an impending burglary. The callers urged him to secure his cash, raising immediate alarm.

Thanks to the prompt actions of the Montabaur police, a suspect attempting to collect the cash was apprehended. The 19-year-old individual is currently in custody pending further investigations. The Koblenz Criminal Police Department has initiated an ongoing investigation to track down additional accomplices.

In a related series of incidents between August 29 and September 1, 2025, more fraud attempts were reported in Koblenz. In these cases, perpetrators disguised themselves as bank officials, demanding sensitive banking information and cards from unsuspecting victims. On September 1, police arrested two suspects, aged 19 and 20, who are also now in custody.

Authorities, including the Koblenz police and public prosecutor's office, have refrained from providing further details for tactical reasons related to the ongoing investigations. However, they have issued a warning to the public: genuine law enforcement officers or bank representatives will never solicit cash or sensitive information over the phone. Individuals receiving such calls should immediately terminate the conversation and report the incident to the police.

It is crucial for families and friends to discuss these fraudulent practices to raise awareness and protect the community from falling victim to similar scams.
