Upcoming Upgrade for 'GTA 5' PC Version Promises Next-Gen Features

Fri 21st Feb, 2025

Rockstar Games has announced an upcoming technical upgrade for the PC version of 'GTA 5,' set to bring the long-overlooked game to a level comparable to the latest consoles, including Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. This update is scheduled for release on March 4.

Fans of the PC version can look forward to new content for the online mode, alongside significant enhancements in graphics. The upgraded graphics will leverage extensive ray tracing capabilities, offering features that surpass those currently available on consoles, such as enhanced shadows, reflections, global illumination, and ambient occlusion.

Another noteworthy addition is the support for advanced upscaling technologies. In addition to AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), the PC version will incorporate NVIDIA's DLSS3 technology. This upscaling solution is designed to improve image quality beyond native rendering while optimizing performance in various scenarios.

In efforts to enhance gameplay experience, Rockstar aims to reduce loading times by implementing support for SSDs and DirectStorage technology. Players using a DualSense controller from Sony will benefit from integrated speaker support and adaptive trigger functionalities, further enriching their gaming experience.

The revised PC version of 'GTA 5' will be made available as a free upgrade for existing owners of the game. Current players will retain their single-player progress and online achievements when transitioning to the new version. Rockstar has assured fans that the previous version of 'GTA 5' will continue to be supported separately.

Historically, Rockstar has faced criticism for its delayed releases on PC. Notable titles like 'GTA 5' and 'Red Dead Redemption 2' were launched much later on the platform compared to their console counterparts. Although 'GTA 6' remains unannounced for PC, many anticipate a port following the release of its console versions. Recently, Rockstar also made headlines by releasing the classic 'Red Dead Redemption' on PC for the first time.
