In the early hours of Sunday, a significant fire erupted in the basement of a residential and commercial building located on Badstraße in Berlin's Wedding district. The blaze, which began at approximately 2:24 AM, prompted a rapid response from the Berlin Fire Department, resulting in the successful evacuation of 46 individuals using aerial ladders.
As the fire crews worked to extinguish the flames, residents trapped inside the building began signaling for help from their windows and balconies. The smoke rendered the stairwells impassable, necessitating the use of two fire department ladders for the rescue operation. Firefighters were able to bring all trapped residents to safety without any reported injuries.
A total of 50 individuals were examined by medical personnel on the scene, but fortunately, none required hospitalization. The fire response involved ten fire engines and a significant deployment of firefighting resources, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
This incident underscores the importance of fire safety measures in residential buildings, especially in multi-story structures where smoke can quickly compromise escape routes. The rapid and coordinated efforts of the fire department ensured that all individuals were accounted for and safe, demonstrating their commitment to public safety in emergency situations.
