Fatal Stabbing in Marzahn: Ex-Partner Arrested and Held in Custody

Wed 29th Jan, 2025

A tragic incident unfolded in Marzahn, where a woman was discovered fatally stabbed in the elevator of her apartment building. Authorities have arrested her former partner, who is currently in custody pending further investigation.

The victim, a 27-year-old Vietnamese woman, was found with multiple stab wounds on Saturday. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

Law enforcement officials have indicated that the suspect, a 29-year-old Vietnamese man, is a prime suspect in the case. He was apprehended on Tuesday after a thorough investigation led by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). The arrest was made in Berlin-Wedding, where the suspect was located.

Investigators are treating this case as a potential femicide, as initial findings suggest that the crime may have been motivated by gender-based violence. Femicide is defined as the killing of a woman because of her gender, often at the hands of a partner or ex-partner. The circumstances of this case have raised serious concerns about the prevalence of such violence.

Initially, a different man, aged 31, was detained shortly after the incident based on proximity to the crime scene. However, he was released the following day after police determined he was not involved.

As the investigation continues, officials have stated that the suspect has thus far remained silent regarding the allegations against him. The judicial authorities have issued a warrant for his detention as they gather more evidence to build their case.

This incident has shocked the local community, prompting discussions about domestic violence and the urgent need for protective measures for individuals in similar situations. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
