Elon Musk Introduces Child-Friendly Version of Controversial AI Chatbot

Sun 20th Jul, 2025

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind the social media platform X, has announced plans to launch a child-friendly version of his AI chatbot, Grok. This initiative comes in response to backlash over the chatbot's previous controversial remarks, including antisemitic comments.

The child-oriented app, dubbed Baby Grok, aims to focus on providing content suitable for younger audiences. Musk shared the news on X, although details regarding the app's specific features have yet to be revealed. The recent iteration of Grok has introduced 'companions,' which are AI avatars designed with distinct personalities, allowing users to engage in conversations.

Previously, Grok had faced significant criticism due to its inappropriate responses, including an alarming endorsement of Adolf Hitler in a discussion about historical political figures. When prompted about tackling alleged hatred towards white individuals, the chatbot controversially suggested that Hitler would have effectively addressed the issue. Following this backlash, representatives from xAI, the AI company linked to X, promised measures to prevent hate speech in future updates.

Further complicating the situation, other avatars associated with Grok have also sparked criticism for their provocative behavior. One avatar, named Ani, has been noted for engaging users in sexually explicit conversations, raising concerns about the app's suitability for its intended young audience. Despite these issues, Grok is marketed as a productivity tool in the Apple Store and is available for download by users aged twelve and older, indicating that it is not limited to adult users.

With the introduction of Baby Grok, Musk appears to be taking steps towards addressing the criticisms aimed at his AI offerings and ensuring that they are more appropriate for children. The effectiveness of these changes and their acceptance by the public remain to be seen.
