Deezer, the popular music streaming platform, has announced that nearly 20% of the music tracks submitted to its service are now generated by artificial intelligence. This significant increase, revealed by the company, highlights a growing trend in the music industry where AI technologies are playing an increasingly pivotal role in content creation.
According to Deezer, more than 20,000 AI-generated songs are uploaded daily. This figure represents a sharp rise from January, when only 10% of uploaded tracks were created using AI. In just three months, the percentage of AI-generated music has nearly doubled, signaling a rapid evolution in how music is produced and consumed.
To manage this influx, Deezer has developed a sophisticated detection tool that identifies AI-generated music with a claimed accuracy of 100%. This tool was introduced at the beginning of the year, and the patents for its technology were filed in December. The platform asserts that it can differentiate music created by various AI generators, including popular ones like Suno and Udio.
Aurelien Herault from Deezer expressed concern over the surge of AI music, noting that there are no signs of a decrease in submissions. He emphasized the importance of approaching this new technology with responsibility and caution. He stated that while AI has the potential to positively impact music creation and consumption, it is essential to ensure that the rights and earnings of artists are protected and that listeners receive transparent information about the music they are consuming.
While AI-generated tracks will not be removed from Deezer's library, they will be excluded from automated recommendations. This decision reflects the company's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its music offerings and ensuring that users are aware of the origins of the music they are listening to.
Deezer's detection tool aims to provide a higher detection rate for AI-generated music compared to other existing solutions, which may struggle to identify tracks from multiple generators. The company is also advocating against the unauthorized use of artistic work for AI training purposes, reinforcing its stance on artist rights and ethical AI use in the music industry.
As the landscape of music continues to evolve with advances in technology, platforms like Deezer are adapting to ensure they remain a relevant and responsible player in the industry.
