Fri 12th Sep, 2025

Classes have resumed at the Bürgermeister-Herz School in Kreuzberg after a significant water pipe burst caused extensive damage to the building earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on a Tuesday, led to water cascading down the walls and resulted in the collapse of ceiling tiles.

On Thursday, school operations were officially back in session as repairs were completed. The district office reported that the necessary repairs to halt the water leak were conducted swiftly, allowing water services to be restored by Wednesday. However, the financial implications of the damage are expected to reach several thousand euros, although a precise figure has yet to be determined. The cause of the pipe burst remains under investigation.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. However, several classrooms remain unavailable for use due to water damage. Specifically, six classrooms are currently off-limits as restoration efforts are underway. The damage was particularly severe in areas where ceiling tiles had absorbed water from the leak, leading to their collapse.

The district has initiated drying operations to address the water damage, and further repairs will include restoring ceilings, floors, and parts of the lighting system that were affected. Emergency services, including the police and fire department, were on the scene shortly after the incident was reported. According to officials, while water poured down the walls, the safety of the children was not compromised.

Parents and staff at the Bürgermeister-Herz School have expressed relief that classes can continue despite the disruption. The district is committed to ensuring that the school is safe and fully functional as quickly as possible, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a stable learning environment for students.
