Bosch Unveils Powerful Performance Line CX-R for E-Mountain Bikes

Thu 1st May, 2025

Bosch has launched its most potent E-Mountainbike drive yet, the Performance Line CX-R, designed to enhance the riding experience significantly. This latest model is an upgraded version of the existing Performance Line CX motor, allowing current users to boost their existing systems to the new specifications.

The Performance Line CX-R features a remarkable 750 watts of power and delivers 100 Newton-meters of torque, surpassing the 600 watts and 85 Newton-meters of the previous model. This enhancement positions Bosch closer to competitors like DJI Amflow, which offers 850 watts and 105 Newton-meters, and Hepha, which matches the CX-R's specifications. The new Bosch mid-motor provides up to 400 percent assistance, compared to the 340 percent of its predecessor, while also shedding approximately 100 grams in weight due to the use of advanced materials. Additionally, the CX-R introduces a new 'Race' mode, which is not available in previous Bosch systems.

For users who recently purchased an E-Bike equipped with the Performance Line CX, there is no need for concern. Bosch has announced that this existing motor can also be upgraded to match the new CX-R's performance. This update will be facilitated through the E-Bike-Flow app, which will effectively remove the previous firmware limitations. The upgraded motor will perform similarly to the CX-R, while the new model offers advantages in terms of reduced weight and lower pedaling resistance, thanks to the superior materials used.

However, Bosch has cautioned users to consider the implications of increased power on mechanical components and battery life. The additional performance may exert greater stress on the bike's parts and affect overall range, prompting riders to think carefully about when and how to utilize this enhanced power.

The anticipated rollout of a free update for the Performance Line CX is set for July, enabling existing Bosch users to access the heightened capabilities of their motors. The first E-Mountain bike models featuring the Bosch Performance Line CX-R are expected to be unveiled in the autumn of 2025. Many manufacturers may take the opportunity to announce new products at the Eurobike trade show in Frankfurt at the end of June.
