BMW Initiates Another Major Recall Due to Fire Risk in Over 300,000 Vehicles

BMW has announced a large-scale, global recall affecting more than 337,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. This latest recall, which impacts popular models such as the i5, 7 Series, M5, 5 Series, and i7, covers vehicles manufactured between June 9, 2022, and December 5, 2025. The recall comes after similar actions in previous months for unrelated technical issues.

The German automaker confirmed that the issue centers on the routing of the cockpit wiring harness. According to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), improper placement of the wiring loom can lead to damage during the replacement of the microfilter. Damaged cables may cause a short circuit, which could result in smoke development and, in rare cases, vehicle fires.

Of the total affected vehicles, nearly 29,500 are registered in Germany. BMW has stated that no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this defect so far. The company emphasizes that the risk becomes relevant only if the vehicle has already undergone an oil service that included a microfilter replacement. In such cases, an immediate inspection and, if necessary, repair of the wiring harness are recommended. Vehicles that have not yet received an oil service or microfilter change do not require urgent action; the correction can be carried out during the first scheduled oil service.

This is the third recall BMW has issued in recent months. Previous recalls, which began in autumn of the previous year and continued into February, involved separate problems that could also potentially lead to fires, particularly those related to faulty starter components in models built between 2015 and 2021 and subsequent model series.

BMW owners can verify whether their vehicles are affected by checking the recall database of the KBA or by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on BMW's dedicated recall portal. This additional transparency aims to ensure that all potentially impacted vehicles are identified and serviced promptly.

The company has advised all owners of the impacted models to follow the recommended procedures and to consult authorized BMW service centers for inspections and potential repairs. The recall is part of ongoing efforts by the automotive industry to prioritize consumer safety and address technical faults proactively before incidents occur.
