Fri 3rd Oct, 2025

Thousands gathered in Berlin to participate in a significant demonstration focused on opposing militarization and war. This rally was organized by various peace initiatives and organizations, coinciding with a similar event taking place in Stuttgart.

According to police estimates, around 7,000 individuals took part in the march, although the organizers did not provide any specific figures. The demonstrators assembled at Bebelplatz in Berlin-Mitte for a rally before embarking on a procession through the city, which was set to conclude at the starting point.

Many of the demonstrators carried signs expressing their sentiments. One prominent message highlighted the belief that increasing military spending and weaponry would not lead to peace. Other placards called for an end to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, which has been affected by Russian aggression, and in Gaza, urging for enhanced diplomatic efforts to resolve these issues. One participant accused the Chancellor of Germany of inciting conflict.

The organizers released a statement expressing concerns over what they termed 'extensive militarization' in Germany, which they argue is resulting in significant national debt, severe cuts to social services, and the militarization of society. The statement emphasized that such policies disproportionately affect vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, the sick, and working-class individuals.

Furthermore, they asserted that increased military funding hampers efforts to address climate change, environmental crises, and global poverty.

This demonstration reflects a growing sentiment among many citizens who are advocating for peace and social justice, emphasizing the need for a shift in governmental priorities towards addressing pressing social and environmental issues.
