Emergency Response in Berlin: Firefighters Tackle Two Basement Blazes

Sat 27th Sep, 2025

In a series of rapid responses, the Berlin Fire Department was called to extinguish fires in the basements of two residential buildings in the districts of Steglitz and Marienfelde. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during these incidents, which prompted the evacuation of several residents.

The first fire occurred in a multi-family house located on Albrechtstraße in Steglitz. At approximately 7:30 PM, firefighters arrived at the scene with eight vehicles, including a ladder truck. The blaze involved burning trash and stored firewood in the basement. To ensure the safety of the residents, 15 individuals were evacuated from the building to protect them from smoke inhalation. The local volunteer fire brigade from Marienfelde provided psychological support to the evacuated residents and offered them blankets. By around 10:30 PM, after ensuring the area was safe, the residents were allowed to return to their homes.

The second incident took place earlier that day at around 1 PM on Marienfelder Allee in Marienfelde. Here, firefighters responded to a fire that spread across roughly three square meters, involving various construction materials and leaves. A rapid response from 22 firefighters ensured that the flames were controlled swiftly, and their efforts concluded within two hours. After checking the apartments and ventilating the basement, the firefighters deemed the building safe for re-entry.

These incidents are part of a broader trend of emergency responses by the Berlin Fire Department, which has been active in various sectors recently, including tackling a smoldering fire in Gesundbrunnen and addressing a nighttime roof fire in Schöneberg. The department continues to prioritize public safety in its operations, swiftly responding to emergencies as they arise.
