Berlin Brandenburg Airport Sees Passenger Growth with Expanded Summer Destinations

Wed 31st Dec, 2025

The Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) reported a notable increase in passenger traffic for the year 2025, welcoming approximately 26 million travelers. This figure represents a rise of about two percent compared to the previous year, when 25.5 million passengers utilized the airport. Operational activity also grew, with around 193,000 aircraft movements recorded, marking a 0.7 percent increase year-over-year. Currently, BER serves as a hub for 70 airlines, providing connections to 130 destinations across the globe.

Airport management has highlighted the resilience of travel demand, despite ongoing challenges in the aviation sector, including market uncertainties and global geopolitical events. The steady growth in passenger numbers underscores the airport's sustained role as an important gateway for both leisure and business travelers in the region. Projections for 2026 indicate continued expansion, with expectations to accommodate between 26.5 and 27 million passengers.

Since opening on October 31, 2020, Berlin Brandenburg Airport has marked several milestones. More than 800,000 aircraft have taken off or landed at BER over its first five years of operation. In October, the airport celebrated its 100 millionth passenger. A new daily record was also set at the start of the autumn holiday period, when 100,000 travelers passed through the airport in a single day--an all-time high since BER's inauguration.

Expansion of Flight Offerings for Summer 2026

The upcoming summer flight schedule, beginning March 29, will introduce several new routes and increased frequencies to meet growing demand. Notably, Air Canada will operate a nonstop service to Montréal three times per week from early July through mid-October, enhancing transatlantic connectivity for the Berlin region. Additionally, Air Transat plans to launch a thrice-weekly Toronto service starting in May, further strengthening ties between Germany and Canada.

Eurowings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, is set to expand its network with new direct flights to London, Lisbon, and Sarajevo. The airline is also adding popular holiday destinations, including Olbia, Naples, and Kavala, to its summer schedule. Several existing routes, such as those to Palma de Mallorca, Stockholm, Zurich, Split, Bilbao, Faro, and Helsinki, will see increased flight frequencies to accommodate heightened seasonal travel demand.

Condor will introduce year-round daily nonstop flights to Abu Dhabi from June onward, providing travelers with more options for direct travel to the Middle East. These new and enhanced connections reflect the airport's ongoing efforts to diversify its route portfolio and respond to shifting travel patterns.

Looking ahead, Berlin Brandenburg Airport anticipates further growth, driven by the addition of new destinations and greater flight frequencies. The airport continues to work closely with airline partners to finalize details of the upcoming schedule and to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers. As the aviation sector adapts to evolving market conditions, BER remains committed to offering an extensive and reliable network of connections for the capital region.
