München - The Bavarian Interior Ministry has released concerning figures regarding individuals deemed potential threats to public safety, categorized as 'Gefährder'. As of the end of February, a total of 47 individuals have been classified in this sensitive category within the state.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt), 'Gefährder' refers to persons for whom there are specific indications that they may commit serious politically or religiously motivated crimes, including murder, manslaughter, or attacks on public order.
In Bavaria, the majority of these threats are identified as stemming from Islamist ideologies, with 33 of the 47 individuals falling under this classification. Seven are associated with right-wing extremism, while two are linked to left-wing extremism. Additionally, five cases have been categorized under other classifications.
Nationally, the situation is serious, with German authorities currently identifying 575 individuals as threats, out of which 458 belong to the Islamist spectrum.
What actions are being taken regarding these individuals? The Bavarian Interior Ministry reports that 13 of the identified threats are currently incarcerated or undergoing civil commitment, meaning they are secured but this is only a temporary measure. Meanwhile, 15 others have left the country, leaving the remainder within Germany, posing ongoing challenges for security agencies and policymakers.
In a recent coalition agreement, the newly formed government comprising CDU, CSU, and SPD has indicated plans to tighten regulations surrounding the management of these identified threats. The focus is particularly on those who are required to leave the country and severe offenders. According to the proposal, these individuals may be placed under a 'permanent deportation arrest' following their release from prison, until they can be deported or choose to leave voluntarily. Plans for repatriation to Afghanistan and Syria are also being considered, starting with those classified as threats and criminals.
While the Bavarian Interior Ministry has expressed support for the coalition's proposals, it has also raised concerns about the precise legal framework that will be established, emphasizing the need for clarity on implementation. Until these regulations are in place, the issue continues to be a pressing concern for security agencies, and one that many citizens find increasingly frustrating.
