In response to the recent implementation of stricter border controls in Germany, Austrian Minister of Economy Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer has expressed his approval of the policy changes. The new measures, which have been in effect for about a week, include the rejection of asylum seekers at the borders, drawing praise from Austrian officials.

During a recent podcast appearance, Hattmannsdorfer highlighted the significance of a shift in migration policy, stating, "I am relieved and thankful that Germany is undertaking a paradigm shift in its approach to migration." He emphasized the need for selective immigration, asserting that Europe must be able to choose who enters its borders.

As part of the new government's strategy, there has been an increase in border checks along all neighboring countries, including Austria. Reports indicate that German authorities have recorded 735 instances of asylum seekers being turned away at the Austrian border.

Hattmannsdorfer further commented on the necessity of maintaining a supportive environment for genuine asylum seekers while deterring those who misuse asylum laws to migrate for economic reasons. He stated that it is crucial for those in need of protection to find a secure place in Europe, but those looking to exploit the system for economic gain should not be allowed to enter.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has also underscored the intent behind the reinforced border controls, aiming to send a clear message that Germany's migration policy is undergoing significant changes. This adjustment is seen as a collective interest for neighboring countries, as it aims to reduce Germany's appeal as a primary destination for migrants.
