Adobe Launches Photoshop for Android Devices

Tue 3rd Jun, 2025

Adobe has expanded its software portfolio by introducing Photoshop for Android, following successful launches on desktop, iPad, and iPhone platforms. This move marks a significant step in making the popular photo editing software accessible to a broader audience, particularly mobile users.

The new Android version of Photoshop requires users to have Android 11 or later installed on their devices, along with a minimum of 6 GB of RAM, although 8 GB is recommended for optimal performance. Currently, the application is available in beta, meaning it is still undergoing development and may not include all features.

During the beta phase, users can access the full functionality of the app free of charge. However, similar to its iPhone counterpart, the final version of Photoshop for Android will offer only basic tools, with prompts for users to upgrade to a paid subscription model. The subscription is priced at EUR8.99 per month or EUR79.99 annually.

Adobe has ported several essential features from the iPhone version to the Android beta. Users will find tools for layers, masks, blending modes, and various selection tools, including a new gesture-based selection feature that allows users to select subjects with their fingers. Additionally, the app includes tools like the healing brush, clone stamp, and AI-powered generative fill to enhance image editing capabilities. Adobe has also integrated access to free assets from the Adobe Stock library, enriching the user experience.

While the beta version provides a glimpse into the potential of Photoshop on Android, many advanced features remain locked behind a subscription, which may limit the usability of the free version. The paid features include object selection, blending modes, and export options in various formats, such as PSD, TIF, JPEG, and PNG. Without the ability to export images, users may find the free version less practical for their editing needs.

Adobe's strategy for Photoshop appears to be aligned with its approach for Lightroom, suggesting that future updates may lead to a more uniform experience across both iPhone and Android platforms. As Adobe continues to refine its mobile offerings, users can expect ongoing enhancements and new features that cater to the evolving demands of digital content creation.
