Munich. It is impossible to have a beer that is free of cigarette smoke in Munichs pubs and bars, according to the opinion of the organization of non-smokers.

According to a non-representative investigation of the 'action alliance for non-smoker protection', only 7 out of 126 pubs in Munich are free of smokers.

"If you simply want to drink a beer from a tap, then you have to search a long time if you don't want to be surrounded by smokers", said Friedrich Wiebel on wednesday. The medical working team for smoking and health, as well as the non-smoker initiative in Munich, demand a nicotine-free gastronomy, to protect non-smokers.

Numerous violations of enforced regulations were found in around 480 pubs which served food, critised the initiator of the study, Ernst-Günther Krause. This cannot be called functional non-smoker protection. There were 80 violations as well as an absense of correct labelling of smoker eateries or a smoker allowance after 10 PM for restaurants.

The inspection took place from April to the start of May in over 600 restaurants and pubs. There will be a referendum on the 4th of July in Bavaria to make a decision about a strict non-smoking policy.
