16,000 Euros compensation must be paid by Sparkasse Bank to a person who was excluded as a job candidate because of disability, says Die Sueddeutsche. The man applied to Sparkasse Bank as a banker, but had not been approved despite his suitable education, years of professional experience and good work references as a possible candidate for the job. He took his case to the Labor Court and won, with the bank having to pay damages and compensation.
At the of 2008 he sent three applications; one to Kreissparkasse Munich-Starnberg, another application for a vacancy at Raiffeisenbank München-Nord, and lastly to the city Sparkasse, which had at that time a number of vacancies available in various areas. Within days he got three rejections. In his applications he had indicated his severe disability, "I would not have legally obliged to do so, but I found it unfair to conceal it to my future employer."
He could only explain refusals with his disability so he was forced to consult an employment lawyer. The city Sparkasse bank, however, protested against the charge of discrimination. This argument failed to convince an employment tribunal. It ordered the Sparkasse bank to pay the claimant 6364.99 Euros costs as well as 10,500 Euros compensation for damages and interest.
