Munich. This years Oktoberfest has highly desired wedding dates: dozens of couples from Bavaria and Saxony applied for a marriage ceremony at the Oktoberfest's 200th anniversary.

"We are receiving 20-page applications with pictures from couples, writing about why they are suited best for the ceremony at the Oktoberfest" , says mayor Christian Ude about the marriage-minded Bavarians and their saxon girlfriends.

Three couples are going to get married on the 12th Oktober at the Theresienwiese - and will remind us where the Oktoberfest originated from: the biggest folks fest in the world originated from the wedding ceremony of Bavaria's crown prince Ludwig and Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen on the 12th of Oktober 1810. In the same manner as in 1810's wedding, this years men are from Bavaria and their brides from Saxony or Thuringia, where queen Therese - a few hundred metres away from the bavarian border - was born.

Mayor Ude remarked, that many couples who applied formerly met at the Oktoberfest.

Alongside the wedding ceremonies there will be several events reminding of the fest's old traditions for its 200th anniversary. 200 years ago, the folks fest came just at the right time - a few years after Bavarians promotion to kingdom: it was supposed to boost community feeling of the new Bavarians and strengthen the focus on the capital Munich.
