Munich. After strong political pressure, the Internet company Google has now stopped photo-mapping Bavaria's streets and the collection of network data.
Google photographed streets worldwide for its Street View project. The recordings are linked to the Internet Map service. A few weeks ago it became known that Google monitored and stored data from wireless Wi-Fi Networks that hundreds of companies and citizens use.
Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) took urgent measures to prevent misusage of the collected data. Google Germany informed Herrmann in their writing that Wi-Fi Network data from the Street View cameras would be removed, and until then, no recording trips will take place anymore. Only when Street View cameras could be adjusted so that Wi-Fi Network data would not be acquired can Google start again with its Street View photographic data collection in Bavaria.
