Rising Concerns Over Youth Radicalization in Germany

Thu 2nd Oct, 2025

Swastikas scrawled on school walls, hate-fueled online chats, and violent assaults--Germany is witnessing a troubling increase in crimes motivated by right-wing extremism. A recent nationwide survey conducted by the victim assistance organization, Weißer Ring, reveals an alarming trend: perpetrators are becoming increasingly younger. In certain German states, such as Saxony, the number of individuals aged 14 to 20 suspected of involvement in right-wing extremist offenses has surged by over 300 percent.

The allure of extremist groups is regaining traction among the youth, as violent, right-wing youth factions actively recruit on school grounds and through online platforms like Telegram. Social media applications, particularly TikTok, play a pivotal role in this phenomenon, with hate-filled posts, propaganda, and glorification of violence contributing to the normalization of extremist ideologies and accelerating radicalization processes.

We invite parents, siblings, friends, and acquaintances to share their experiences: Have you noticed signs of radicalization in your child or someone close to you? How are you addressing this issue? Do you confront the individual involved? Are you seeking assistance from teachers, community organizations, or support programs? How do you discuss radicalization within your family and friend circles?

We encourage you to reach out to us via our form or email at community-redaktion@zeit.de. Selected contributions will be published, with the option for anonymity if desired.
