Woman Who Insulted Baerbock Decides Against Appeal

A woman from Hanover, who was previously convicted for insulting German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, has opted not to appeal her sentence, making the ruling final. The decision was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Hanover District Court.

The woman, aged 28 at the time of the verdict, had been fined EUR600, which translates to 40 daily rates of EUR15 each. This ruling was issued by the Hanover District Court in December 2023. The conviction arose from her social media activities where she referred to Baerbock as a 'terrorist' in an Instagram post, coinciding with ongoing conflicts in the Gaza Strip.

In a graphic she shared on Instagram, the woman depicted several world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, U.S. President Joe Biden, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, each altered with a distinctive black moustache and labeled with the phrase 'Kids Killers Union.'

Following the posts, Baerbock filed a criminal complaint, leading to the woman's conviction for insult against a public figure. Despite admitting to creating the posts, she denied any criminal intent.
