Weather forecast: The cold is coming next week

Mon 28th Nov, 2022

Image by Larisa KoshkinaAccording to the forecast of the German Weather Service (DWD), the weather in Germany will be late autumnal in the next few days.

On Monday, it will be mostly cloudy or overcast with high fog - there will also be some sporadic drizzle. According to the forecast, it will be coldest in the east and northeast.

There, the highs will still be around 5 degrees and then drop by around 1 degree day by day. It is milder in the west, where up to 10 degrees can be reached at the beginning of the week.

High pressure area from the north

According to the DWD, the weather will be more dynamic in the middle of the week. A powerful area of high pressure over Russia expands in the course of the week to Scandinavia.

This brings Germany more and more into an easterly flow, with which increasingly cold continental air comes into the country. "Consequently, it is getting colder and colder from the east and in the night to Thursday, the precipitation in the east and northeast will turn more and more into snow," explained a DWD meteorologist.

In the following days, it would then get colder and colder. Even in the west, temperatures will barely reach 5 degrees. In the east, with highs around freezing point, the winter jacket will be necessary, according to the DWD, and regionally there could even be light permafrost. "Precipitation will hardly fall, however, so that we will probably have to wait a little longer for the "winter wonderland"," the DWD meteorologist explained further.
