Volunteer Engagement: Speed Dating for Community Service

Thu 27th Mar, 2025

In Berlin, individuals interested in volunteering have a wealth of opportunities available to them. A unique speed dating event is set to take place, allowing prospective volunteers to meet multiple organizations in a short timeframe.

The event, organized by the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office, will feature a variety of organizations that provide support in different areas, such as educational assistance, food distribution, and outreach work with the homeless. Participants will have the chance to learn about these organizations through a speed-dating format, where they can rotate between ten tables every five minutes.

Among the organizations participating are well-known entities like the Berlin City Mission, the German Red Cross, and the Diakonie, as well as smaller groups such as Bildung und Gesellschaft e.V., Freie Hilfe Berlin e.V., and the Achim-Freyer-Stiftung's Kunsthaus. While some of these projects are located in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and surrounding areas, others may have a broader reach.

The aim of this event is to create a platform that makes it easier for citizens to engage with a variety of social initiatives and projects. According to Tim Richter, the district councillor responsible for this initiative, the speed dating format is designed to facilitate connections between volunteers and organizations looking for assistance.

The event will take place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Forum Steglitz, providing a convenient setting for those interested in contributing to their community.
