Mon 8th Sep, 2025

At the IAA Mobility event in Munich, Volkswagen (VW) unveiled plans to introduce four new electric compact car models designed to significantly boost its market share in Europe. Oliver Blume, the company's CEO, announced ambitious sales targets for these models, aiming for a 20% market share in the electric compact vehicle segment.

The newly revealed models, set to launch in 2026, include the ID. Polo, which is expected to start at just under EUR25,000. The lineup will kick off next year with the Cupra Raval, followed by two SUV variants, the VW ID. Cross and the Skoda Epiq, all of which will be manufactured in Spain to optimize production costs.

Blume emphasized the strategic importance of this new vehicle family, highlighting the substantial growth potential within this highly competitive segment of the electric mobility market. He noted that the demand for fully electric compact cars in Europe is projected to quadruple by 2030, providing a significant opportunity for VW to enhance its position in the automotive landscape.

The goal is to sell several hundred thousand units annually from this new series, reinforcing VW's intention to establish a leading role in the entry-level market within Europe.

Currently, VW holds a dominant position in the European electric vehicle market, boasting a 28% market share. From January to July, the company reported sales of nearly 466,000 electric vehicles worldwide, which represents a 47% increase compared to the same period last year, and a remarkable 90% growth in Europe alone.
