VdK President Warns Against Social Cuts by Union and SPD

Verena Bentele, the president of the social association VdK, has issued a warning to the Union and the SPD regarding potential cuts in social programs, particularly concerning citizen income and the incentives for heating system upgrades. In her statement, she emphasized the importance of using the resources from the newly established special fund wisely, urging that this opportunity should not be squandered through short-sighted reductions in social spending.

Bentele highlighted that any reduction in citizen income could have detrimental effects on the workforce qualification of recipients. She pointed out that the financial flexibility surrounding citizen income is more constrained than many might believe, as it revolves around a legally mandated minimum standard of living and modest standard rates that cannot be further reduced. In times of labor shortages, she asserted, the new government must avoid cutting back on training and further education programs.

Furthermore, she expressed that budget cuts related to the heating law are neither necessary nor wise. According to Bentele, the additional funds from the special financial reserves should ensure that there is always sufficient funding available for socially equitable support measures.
