US Deportations to Venezuela: Notable Gang Leader Among Returnees

A recent deportation flight from the United States has landed in Venezuela, carrying 175 migrants, including a notable gang leader, as reported by local authorities. This incident marks a significant development in the ongoing issue of immigration and repatriation.

According to Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, this is the first occurrence of such a high-profile criminal being returned on these flights. The deportee in question is identified as the leader of a criminal group, although it has been clarified that he is not affiliated with the notorious Tren de Aragua drug gang. Instead, he is associated with a group known as El Cagón, based in Trujillo state.

Minister Cabello stated that this return marks a unique instance, but reassured that none of the previously deported individuals were linked to Tren de Aragua. No further details regarding the gang leader's criminal activities or the circumstances of his deportation were disclosed.

This flight represents the third deportation operation since the resumption of flights from the U.S. to Venezuela. Recently, the Venezuelan government announced its willingness to accept deportations following discussions with Washington. This change came after a halt on such flights last month, which was prompted by the U.S. accusing Venezuela of failing to honor its commitments regarding the repatriation of migrants.

In a related context, over 200 suspected members of Venezuelan drug cartels have been sent to El Salvador for incarceration, illustrating the broader efforts by U.S. authorities to combat organized crime linked to immigration.
