Tue 11th Feb, 2025

In a significant development concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that a delegation from the United States, representing President Donald Trump, is set to arrive in Ukraine this week. This visit comes ahead of the Munich Security Conference scheduled for February 14 to 16.

Zelensky stated that members of Trump's team will be in Ukraine before the conference, although he did not disclose the specific individuals who will be part of this delegation. According to unconfirmed reports, Keith Kellogg, a prominent figure appointed by Trump to handle Ukraine matters, is expected to arrive next Thursday.

Additionally, Zelensky expressed his intention to meet with US Vice President J. D. Vance during the Munich Security Conference. He is also working on arrangements to hold a discussion with Trump, emphasizing the importance of speaking with the US leader before any potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump has so far left his approach to resolving the conflict ambiguous.

In conjunction with the high-level discussions in Ukraine and at the Munich conference, a meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group will take place in Brussels on Wednesday. This group, which includes various supporter countries of Ukraine, operates under British leadership and focuses on coordinating military assistance to Ukraine. The group has been convening regularly at the US military base in Ramstein, Germany, since 2022.

This week's developments highlight the ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the situation in Ukraine as the conflict continues to affect the region and beyond.
