Ten Years After the OECD's Warning: Bias Against Boys in Schools Still Ignored

The Ukrainian military has reported a significant achievement in the ongoing conflict with Russia, asserting that it has successfully halted the Russian summer offensive while also regaining some territory. Ukrainian Commander Olexander Syrskyj stated that the situation at critical frontlines, including Lyman, Dobropillja, and Pokrowsk, has been stabilized, indicating a shift in momentum in favor of Ukraine.
In a recent update, Syrskyj emphasized the strategy of focusing on defense and inflicting considerable losses on the enemy, which led to the recovery of multiple locations and approximately 58 square kilometers of land in August. One noteworthy reclaiming was the village of Saritschne, located near Lyman in the Donetsk region, which holds strategic importance due to its position along the West bank of the Serebrianka River, serving as a barrier against the Russian advance.
Foreign military analysts, including those from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), have corroborated Ukraine's claims, noting that the Russian military has struggled to achieve significant breakthroughs despite its numerical superiority this summer.
While Ukraine reports successes on the battlefield, Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure. A recent drone attack on a heating plant near Kyiv has caused damage, highlighting Russia's ongoing strategy of disrupting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian Energy Ministry indicated that the attack, while damaging, did not necessitate power outages, although gas supply to nearby areas has been temporarily interrupted.
The impact of nightly drone strikes was felt in Kramatorsk, where two individuals lost their lives due to the assaults. Ukrainian air defense managed to intercept 112 out of 142 Russian drones deployed in these operations.
Reports suggest that while Ukraine faces challenges in manning its front lines due to a shortage of soldiers, Russian forces are also grappling with issues of desertion and declining morale, which could hinder their operational effectiveness. Syrskyj noted that Russian forces have been attempting to exploit gaps in Ukrainian defenses.
As the conflict continues, there are growing concerns about increased assaults on Ukraine's energy infrastructure as winter approaches. Historical patterns indicate that Moscow may intensify its attacks on energy supplies as cold weather sets in, potentially leading to severe hardships for the Ukrainian civilian population.
