A promising culinary career was tragically cut short when chef Gianna Buzzetta, aged 26, lost her life due to a fatal accident while hiking in Hawaii. The incident occurred on March 23, when Buzzetta was exploring the scenic Makaleha Falls on the island of Kauai with her partner.
According to reports, the couple was enjoying their hike when a sudden, loud noise drew their attention. Buzzetta's father recounted the events, explaining that they were unable to identify the source of the sound before disaster struck. A large rock dislodged from a height and struck Buzzetta, causing her to fall into the water below.
Her partner, Connor Quinton, immediately rushed to her aid but faced challenges in summoning help. Initial attempts to call for emergency assistance were unsuccessful, prompting him to run approximately three miles in search of a signal. Eventually, he was able to alert authorities, and a rescue helicopter was dispatched to transport Buzzetta to a nearby hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Buzzetta was later pronounced dead following her arrival at the hospital.
Prior to this tragic event, Gianna Buzzetta had established herself as a talented pastry chef at the acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurant, Jeune et Jolie, located in Carlsbad, California. Known for her creativity and dedication, she had become an integral part of the culinary team, earning admiration from colleagues and patrons alike.
John Resnick, the owner of Jeune et Jolie, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Buzzetta, highlighting her significant contributions to the restaurant's success. He noted that her innovative approach and hardworking nature had made her a beloved member of the team. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the restaurant staff conveyed their deep condolences and expressed their intentions to support Buzzetta's family during this difficult time.
In a show of solidarity, the restaurant plans to donate all proceeds from sales beginning April 7 to assist with the costs associated with Buzzetta's medical treatment and transportation.
