New Thiel Crime Thriller: 'Yvonne and Death' Captivates Audiences

Mon 10th Mar, 2025

The latest installment in the Thiel crime series, titled 'Yvonne and Death', features the return of Chief Investigator Ingo Thiel, portrayed by Heino Ferch. This gripping episode, which airs on ZDF, delves into the mysterious disappearance of a tax auditor, Yvonne Gaspers, who has been missing for ten days. The plot thickens when a business card belonging to Thiel is discovered in her jacket pocket, suggesting he was the last person to see her alive during an emotionally charged meeting.

Thiel's colleagues quickly question his objectivity in the investigation, wondering if this case should fall under the jurisdiction of the missing persons unit rather than the homicide division. Undeterred, Thiel pursues his own line of inquiry, and the evidence begins to point toward a darker narrative.

Scheduled for broadcast on March 10 at 8:15 PM, 'Yvonne and Death' is the sixth film in the Thiel series and is already available for streaming in the ZDF Mediathek. The storyline takes several unexpected twists before culminating in a dramatic showdown set in a Mediterranean harbor town. Initially, it seems plausible that Gaspers might simply need a break, but as the investigation progresses, clues emerge that suggest a horrific crime has taken place. Notably, Thiel perceives a distinct chlorine odor in Gaspers' apartment that others overlook, heightening his determination to uncover the truth.

Detective Lee Sooyoung, from the missing persons unit, is the first to align with Thiel's suspicions, ultimately becoming his steadfast ally. Once Gaspers' burned-out vehicle is discovered, the rest of Thiel's team rallies behind him, fully committing to the case.

According to Matthias Pfeifer, the editorial director, the Thiel series has become a recognizable brand, with Ingo Thiel himself advising on the production. Though inspired by real events, the series does not aim to present itself as a true-crime documentary. The character of Ingo Thiel gained national attention following the real-life case of a ten-year-old boy named Mirco, who went missing in the Niederrhein region in 2010. The extensive search for Mirco's murderer captivated the public, leading to Thiel's portrayal by Ferch since the inception of the series.

Thiel, the real investigator, once boasted a 100% resolution rate for his cases. Ferch has described Thiel as a passionate, adrenaline-driven individual who is tenacious and unyielding in his pursuit of justice, traits that contribute to his effective problem-solving skills.
