Public transport users in Berlin are currently facing significant disruptions as the vital tram line M10 remains partially out of service. The suspension, which is set to last through April 12, affects a major central segment of the route and has resulted in the implementation of a replacement bus service for impacted passengers.
The interruption spans the stretch between Invalidenstraße and Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark, a particularly busy corridor for the city's commuters. Replacement buses are operating between Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark and the U-Bahn station Naturkundemuseum to ensure continued passenger movement along the affected section. During this period, the M10 tram will only run between Warschauer Straße and Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark, utilizing a turning loop for operations in this area.
Further adjustments have been made for passengers traveling towards the U-Bahn station Turmstraße. Instead of the M10, the tram lines M5 and M8 are serving this route until the resumption of regular service. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional time for transfers and replacement transportation.
In addition to the main route closure, construction work is also underway at the turning loop near Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main train station). As a result, tram stops at Lüneburger Straße and Clara-Jaschke-Straße in the Moabit district are not being served during this period. The Berlin public transport operator (BVG) has cited ongoing track renewal works as the reason for the extensive service changes. Specifically, rail replacement is taking place at two locations: on Invalidenstraße near Clara-Jaschke-Straße and on Eberswalder Straße between Brunnenstraße and Mauerpark. These projects require the removal and installation of new tracks, necessitating the temporary suspension of tram traffic in these areas.
BVG has stated that both sets of works have been deliberately scheduled to coincide in order to minimize the overall inconvenience for passengers and to complete the upgrades in the shortest possible timeframe. Upon completion, the tram line M10 is expected to resume its full service with new, modernized tracks, promising improved reliability and enhanced safety for future operations.
Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through official BVG communication channels and to check for real-time updates regarding schedules and alternative routes. While the temporary suspension of the M10 may prove inconvenient, the ongoing construction is part of Berlin's broader efforts to modernize and maintain its public transit infrastructure, ensuring continued efficiency for the city's growing population.
