Söder Advocates for Increased Staffing in Federal Police to Fortify Border Security

In a bid to enhance the security of Germany's external borders, the leader of the CSU party, Markus Söder, has called for an increase in personnel for the Federal Police. He emphasized the importance of effective border controls, stating that they play a significant role in shaping migration patterns across Europe.

According to Söder, strengthening the Federal Police is essential not only at the borders but also at train stations across the country. He highlighted Bavaria as the safest federal state, attributing this status to its robust police staffing levels. He asserted that Bavaria's border police unit is instrumental in ensuring the security of the southern and southeastern borders, a model not yet replicated in other federal states.

Following his appointment, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, a fellow CSU member, initiated stricter border controls, which include the rejection of asylum seekers at the borders. However, police unions have voiced concerns that the current workforce may not be sufficient to sustain these increased demands over the long term.

As discussions around migration and border security intensify, the call for enhanced police resources reflects a growing consensus among political leaders about the need for a coordinated approach to managing migration effectively.
