Commemoration of the Battle of Seelow Heights Welcomes Russian Ambassador

On Wednesday, a significant commemoration event is set to take place at the Seelow Heights, marking approximately 80 years since the famous battle. This year's observance carries heightened importance due to a recent governmental directive regarding participation from Russian and Belarusian officials. The event will include a wreath-laying ceremony and a moment of silence at the memorial site, scheduled for 11:00 AM.

Notably, Russian Ambassador Sergej Netschajew is expected to attend the ceremony. The Battle of Seelow Heights, which occurred in April 1945, was one of the final major confrontations in Europe during World War II, resulting in significant casualties among Soviet troops.

Hanke articulated that preventing the ambassador's participation could undermine diplomatic relations with Russia.
