In a recent incident at a munitions facility owned by Rheinmetall's subsidiary in southeastern Spain, an explosion occurred, resulting in injuries to six individuals and triggering a forest fire. However, the German defense contractor has confirmed that production will remain unaffected.

The explosion took place at the Rheinmetall Expal Munitions site in Javalí Viejo, located in the Murcia region, on Thursday. Among the injured, one worker sustained serious injuries and required hospitalization.

The company has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, with local authorities also involved in the inquiry. Rheinmetall has stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the incident was the result of foul play.

In addition to the injuries, the explosion caused a fire that spread over approximately 2,000 square meters in the industrial area, though it was extinguished relatively quickly.

The Javalí Viejo facility employs around 427 staff members and produces munitions powder for both military and civilian usage. With a sophisticated operational network that includes seven sites in Spain and the United States, Expal supplies products to over 60 countries. Notably, Ukraine has emerged as a significant customer for munitions produced by the Rheinmetall group.
