Regional Train Collides with Salt Container in Bernburg

On March 28, 2025, a serious incident occurred in Bernburg-Roschwitz when a regional train collided with a salt container, leading to significant disruptions in train services. The container became wedged under the train, preventing it from continuing its journey.

The emergency control center of the railway company reported the collision to the federal police at approximately 4:33 PM. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assist in removing the obstructing debris.

At the time of the incident, around 25 passengers were aboard the train, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The train was subsequently returned to the main station in Bernburg, where passengers were transferred to a bus that continued their journey to Köthen.

The federal police have launched an investigation into the incident, classifying it as a dangerous interference with railway operations. They are seeking assistance from the public to gather more information. Authorities are particularly interested in any witnesses who may have seen individuals near the railway tracks at the Bernburg-Roschwitz stop on the afternoon of March 28.

The necessary closure of the railway line lasted until 6:27 PM, resulting in delays of up to 45 minutes for two trains, as well as seven partial cancellations and one complete service disruption, alongside required diversions.
