Tue 11th Feb, 2025

Two private jets were involved in a collision on the runway at Scottsdale Municipal Airport, located in Arizona, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to several others. The incident occurred on February 10, 2025, at approximately 2:45 PM local time.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Learjet 35A landed and subsequently veered off the runway, crashing into a Gulfstream 200 that was stationed on the ramp. Initial reports indicated that at least four individuals sustained injuries from the crash. The Scottsdale Fire Department confirmed that two of the injured were transported to trauma centers, while one person in stable condition was taken to a local hospital. There was also a report of an individual trapped inside one of the jets, prompting urgent rescue efforts.

The FAA has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, with the exact cause still undetermined. In response to the incident, the FAA has temporarily halted flights into the airport while the investigation is underway.

Scottsdale Airport is a well-known hub for private jet traffic, particularly during significant sporting events in the Phoenix area. This tragic incident adds to a concerning trend of aviation accidents in the United States in recent weeks. Notably, a passenger jet collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, D.C., resulting in the deaths of 67 people. This was followed by a medical jet crash in Philadelphia that claimed the lives of seven individuals, and another plane crash in Alaska that resulted in 10 fatalities.

As authorities continue to investigate the Scottsdale incident, the aviation community is urged to prioritize safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
