The police have initiated a total of 100 criminal investigation proceedings following the occupation of a lecture hall at Humboldt University. Authorities are looking into serious charges, including aggravated trespassing, particularly severe disturbances of the peace, incitement to hatred, use of symbols from unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, as well as resisting law enforcement officers.
During the occupation, which involved numerous activists, there were reports of a liquid being thrown at officers, suspected to be urine. Additionally, fireworks were reportedly launched at the police. During the eviction process, two individuals allegedly assaulted the officers and resisted arrest. Despite injuries sustained by two police officers to their hands, they continued their duties without interruption.
Approximately 90 individuals were inside the lecture hall at the time of the police operation, while around 120 others were outside. On Wednesday afternoon, at the request of the university's administration, the lecture hall was cleared by around 350 police officers. The doors had been barricaded from the inside, complicating the eviction process.
The police managed to escort the occupiers out gradually and documented their identities. Following the evacuations, all individuals received a prohibition from entering the premises. By 8 PM, the last of the occupants had exited the building.
In recent days, the situation surrounding the Middle East conflict has intensified, prompting further demonstrations and discussions within various academic and social circles. The authorities emphasize the importance of maintaining public order while also allowing for expressions of free speech and protest in a safe manner.
The Humboldt University administration has not commented extensively on the incident but has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students and staff.
