Oktoberfest Director Relocates to Hotel for Event Management

The newly appointed director of Oktoberfest, Christian Scharpf, has decided to stay in a hotel during the festival to ensure his presence is felt throughout the event. This move is aimed at allowing him to be on-site at all times, facilitating quick responses to any issues that may arise.

Scharpf, who also took on the role of Economic Advisor in March, resides in the Maxvorstadt district, which is just a few kilometers from the festival grounds. However, he noted that the heavy commuter traffic during the festival makes travel difficult. With crowded public transport and congested streets, even short distances can become time-consuming.

As the festival director, Scharpf's responsibilities begin early each day with meetings to discuss security and logistics before the event opens to the public. This demanding schedule includes a series of appointments that require him to maintain a clear overview and ensure everything runs smoothly.

By booking a hotel room directly adjacent to the festival grounds, Scharpf follows in the footsteps of his predecessor, Clemens Baumgärtner. Baumgärtner adopted this strategy during the 2022 festival, citing the need to be readily available in case of emergencies, particularly during the nighttime hours when challenges often arise.

Baumgärtner described the long hours required of the festival's leadership, noting that his days would often stretch to 17 or 18 hours. Scharpf is committed to a similar level of dedication, emphasizing the importance of being present for both the safety and enjoyment of festival-goers.
