North Korea Criticizes Trump's Plans for 'Golden Dome' Missile Defense System

North Korea has issued a strong condemnation of the proposed U.S. missile defense system, known as 'Golden Dome,' introduced by President Donald Trump. According to state media reports, the North Korean government described this initiative as a 'highly dangerous threat' that jeopardizes the strategic security of nuclear-armed states.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry released a statement through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), labeling the 'Golden Dome' project as a significant cause for escalating global tensions regarding nuclear and space armaments. The ministry accused the United States of being intent on militarizing outer space, thus exacerbating security concerns among nuclear-armed nations and transforming space into a potential battleground for nuclear conflict.

In recent remarks at the White House, President Trump emphasized the importance of the 'Golden Dome' project, asserting that it is crucial for the success and survival of the United States. He claimed that once completed, the missile defense system would be capable of intercepting missiles launched from any point on the globe, including those originating from space, within three years.

China has also expressed disapproval of the U.S. missile defense initiative, warning that it threatens to upset the global strategic balance. Chinese officials urged President Trump to abandon the project, echoing sentiments shared by North Korea.

Despite being subject to extensive international sanctions due to its nuclear weapons programs, North Korea continues to develop its arsenal. The country conducted its first nuclear test in 2006 and has faced a series of UN sanctions, particularly intensified in 2017, which remain in effect indefinitely. Nevertheless, North Korea persists with its missile and nuclear endeavors, allegedly with assistance from both China and Russia. The nation frequently conducts missile tests in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
