Meta Launches Generative AI Tools for Game World Creation in Europe

Mon 28th Jul, 2025

Meta has introduced a suite of generative AI tools designed to simplify the process of creating virtual environments for its Metaverse platform, Horizon Worlds. This innovative technology allows users to generate 3D models, complete with textures, skyboxes, sound effects, ambient sounds, and TypeScript code, all based on text prompts.

The objective of these tools is to significantly reduce the development time for virtual worlds, cutting the process from several weeks down to just a few hours. Initially available only in the United States, these generative AI tools have now expanded their reach to various countries, including those within the European Union.

While the tools offer impressive capabilities, there are limits to their usage. Users can submit up to 100 requests per day for 3D models, 50 for skyboxes, 200 for sound effects and ambient noises, and 1000 for TypeScript code. Depending on the complexity of the request, the generation process may take several minutes.

The virtual worlds created using these tools are exclusive to Horizon Worlds, which can be accessed through the Meta Quest VR headset, mobile devices, and web platforms. The Worlds Desktop Editor, which is currently available only for Windows PCs, was released in early access earlier this year, replacing the previous method of designing virtual worlds directly within virtual reality.

Looking ahead, Meta aims to further enhance its generative AI capabilities by enabling users to create entire game worlds through simple text commands. Additionally, the company is planning to introduce AI-controlled non-player characters (NPCs) that users can interact with through voice commands.

With the launch of the Worlds Desktop Editor, Meta has also broadened the list of countries where creators can monetize their virtual items within their worlds, including Germany. However, creators may retain just over 50% of the revenue generated from their creations.

As generative AI continues to make its mark on game development, Meta seeks to position itself as a competitive player in the metaverse space, aiming to offer a viable alternative to established platforms like Roblox and Fortnite. By focusing on AI-assisted content generation, Meta hopes to attract a broader audience and foster creativity within its virtual environments.
