Messe Berlin Achieves Record Revenue in 2024

Tue 27th May, 2025

The Messe Berlin has reported exceptional financial results for the year 2024, achieving the highest revenue in its history. The land-owned exhibition company announced a total revenue of EUR480.8 million, along with a net profit exceeding EUR50 million.

This remarkable performance is attributed primarily to the event and exhibition business within the capital, with more than EUR325 million generated from trade fairs, congresses, and events. This figure aligns with the revenue levels seen during the record-setting year of 2018. Noteworthy events contributing to this success include the renowned Agrarian Exhibition, Grüne Woche, and the ITB Berlin tourism fair. Moreover, the Innotrans 2024, a leading international trade fair for transport technology and mobility, emerged as the largest event held in Berlin to date.

According to the company, the profit from its event operations showcased a 50% increase compared to 2018, culminating in a total of EUR30 million. The remaining EUR155 million in revenue was generated through the Tegel Arrival Center for refugees, reflecting the company's commitment to contributing positively to society. The head of Messe Berlin, Mario Tobias, emphasized the organization's role in being part of the solution rather than the problem. In 2022, the company was entrusted by the Berlin government with various planning and construction tasks, as well as security and service provisions, which resulted in a profit of EUR25 million in this area in 2024.

Tobias noted that the results indicate that Messe Berlin has effectively capitalized on the opportunities presented by the strong event year in 2024, highlighting the company's economic success amidst intense international competition.

Looking ahead, Messe Berlin plans to expand its international presence further. The company aims to introduce more new events at the Berlin exhibition grounds, such as the recent IT exhibition, Gitex Europe. Future plans include events like the Smart Health Asia congress in Singapore and the ITB Americas tourism trade fair in Mexico, scheduled for 2026. Two additional new events are expected to be announced in June.

Messe Berlin has been relatively late to enter the international event scene compared to other locations like Frankfurt, having only begun hosting events abroad in the 2000s. Currently, it organizes fewer than ten international events each year, but the goal is to increase this number to at least one additional event annually. The company believes that hosting international fairs brings numerous advantages, including minimizing competition and establishing strong brands such as ITB and Fruit Logistica internationally. As a result, companies may be encouraged to participate in events, enhancing their confidence to showcase their offerings in Berlin. Furthermore, the international events are expected to contribute to the overall surplus, making up 5% of the revenue in 2024, with projections for increased contributions this year.
