La Antigua, Mexico - Marco Ebben, a 32-year-old Dutch national known as Europe's cocaine kingpin, was shot dead in a targeted attack in Mexico. The incident took place in a high-end residential area of Atizapán de Zaragoza, located near Mexico City. Eyewitnesses reported a barrage of gunfire that culminated in Ebben's death, as he was discovered lying between two luxury vehicles in a parking lot. Authorities have confirmed that Ebben, who was one of Europe's most wanted criminals, was being pursued by Europol for his involvement in international cocaine trafficking. Having lived in hiding under a false identity since 2023, he was reportedly trying to evade law enforcement. Born on March 31, 1992, in the Netherlands, Ebben had developed a reputation for employing innovative smuggling tactics to conceal his illegal operations. Reports indicate that he was known to hide drugs within T-shirts and detergent shipments, with one notable instance involving the transportation of 400 kilograms of cocaine disguised in pineapple crates. Despite being sentenced to seven years and four months in prison in 2020 for drug trafficking, Ebben managed to evade incarceration by disappearing. It is believed that he forged strong ties with the infamous Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world's most powerful drug trafficking organizations, involved in various criminal activities including drug distribution, murder, money laundering, and human trafficking. Upon discovering Ebben's body, authorities found a fake identification card bearing the name Jesús Antonio Velásquez Rivas, as well as a voter ID card. Medical examiners later confirmed his identity as Marco Ebben through an autopsy. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and no arrests have been made thus far. Investigations by the Mexican police are currently underway as they seek to uncover the motives behind this high-profile murder.
