At a recent demonstration opposing the AfD state congress in Bad Fallingbostel, prominent climate activist Luisa Neubauer expressed her concerns regarding the escalating violence in society. Neubauer, who was the main speaker at the event, emphasized the unsettling reality that she requires personal protection while participating in public protests.

In an interview conducted on-site, Neubauer articulated her alarm over the current state of democracy, highlighting that the necessity of security measures reflects broader societal issues. The gathering, organized by a diverse coalition of unions, political parties, and religious groups, aimed to unite efforts against the far-right party.

Neubauer pointed out the interconnectedness of the climate movement and democratic advocacy, underscoring that extremist groups actively oppose both open societies and climate justice. She argued that such hostility towards democratic values and scientific discourse on climate change necessitates a collective response, including calls for a ban on the AfD.

She urged all citizens to utilize their available resources to protect democracy, stressing the importance of solidarity in combating extremism. Neubauer also highlighted the critical role of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in this struggle, stating that a principled CDU is vital for maintaining a stable democratic environment in Germany. In light of recent parliamentary votes, where the CDU and its sister party, the CSU, accepted support from the AfD, Neubauer called for a clear distancing from right-wing extremism.

She conveyed her belief that the current political landscape demands decisive action from established parties to fortify democratic values and counteract the influence of extremist ideologies. Neubauer's remarks resonate with a growing concern among many citizens about the implications of political polarization and the threat posed by far-right movements.
