Thu 1st May, 2025

Siegen (NRW) - A court in Siegen has sentenced a 32-year-old woman to life imprisonment for her brutal attack on three young men in a city bus. The incident, which took place on August 30, 2024, occurred just a week after a similar knife attack in Solingen, where a 26-year-old Syrian man fatally stabbed three people at a local festival.

During the attack in the bus, the assailant, identified as Lisa Marie C., indiscriminately targeted her victims with a knife, inflicting life-threatening wounds to their necks. The quick actions of the bus driver, who opened all the bus doors, prevented further casualties, although the victims were left in critical condition.

The court found Lisa Marie C. guilty of attempted murder with malice aforethought in three counts, resulting in a life sentence. Despite her reported psychological issues, the court deemed her fully responsible for her actions, emphasizing her premeditated intent to harm.

The judge, Elfriede Dreisbach, noted the disturbing nature of the crime, which drew national attention due to its timing and the parallels with the Solingen attack. During the trial, the defendant admitted that she was inspired by the previous incident, claiming she sought to outdo the perpetrator by inflicting even greater harm.

The motives behind her actions were described as stemming from a sense of hopelessness exacerbated by the loss of her driving license. The defendant expressed a desire to highlight her own suffering by targeting innocent individuals, reflecting a troubling mindset.

The victims of the attack have not only endured physical injuries but are also grappling with severe psychological repercussions. The court highlighted that all three men have experienced significant anxiety, panic attacks, and disruptions in their daily lives since the attack.

The case serves as a grim reminder of the potential for violence in public spaces and the far-reaching effects of such acts on both victims and communities. The swift judicial response aims to address the serious nature of the crime and underline the importance of public safety.
