New Leadership at Kunsthaus Minsk in Potsdam

Mon 31st Mar, 2025

The Kunsthaus Minsk, a prominent cultural institution in Potsdam, is set to welcome a new director. Starting April 1, Anna Schneider will take over the leadership role, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Kunsthaus. Schneider previously served as a curator at Haus der Kunst in Munich, where she successfully organized exhibitions featuring notable artists such as Theaster Gates, Meredith Monk, Michael Armitage, and Frank Bowling.

Schneider's connection to Potsdam is significant, as she studied at the University of Applied Sciences in the city, establishing a longstanding relationship with the area.

The building that houses Kunsthaus Minsk was constructed in the 1970s and served as a popular restaurant during the East German era. Following the reunification of Germany, the site continued to operate as a restaurant for several years before falling into disrepair. In 2019, the structure was acquired by the Hasso Plattner Foundation, led by the philanthropist and software billionaire Hasso Plattner, with the intention of rehabilitating the building and transforming it into an accessible art venue.

Since its reopening in 2022, Kunsthaus Minsk has primarily showcased works from East German artists, which are part of Plattner's extensive art collection, alongside contemporary art exhibitions. This shift aims to provide a platform for diverse artistic expressions, bridging the past with present-day art narratives.

As Kunsthaus Minsk embarks on this new chapter under Schneider's guidance, the institution is expected to enhance its role in the cultural landscape of Potsdam, fostering engagement with both local and international art communities.
