Sat 1st Feb, 2025

In a thrilling start to the Sixday Weekend in Berlin, local cyclists Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt finished the first evening in second place. The event, held at the Velodrom, attracted a lively crowd of 6,500 spectators who witnessed the duo's impressive performance. However, the lead was taken by Italian competitors Elia Viviani and Michele Scartezzi, who claimed victory in the final chase, placing them at the top of the overall standings with 82 points, just ahead of Kluge and Reinhardt, who amassed 77 points. The Dutch team of Yoeri Havik and Philip Heijnen closely trails in third place with 68 points.

This year's 112th edition of the Berlin Sixday race has been condensed to a two-day format due to economic considerations. For Kluge and Reinhardt, this event marks their last race together as a competitive pair. Reinhardt is set to retire from professional cycling, transitioning to a coaching role within German Cycling. He expressed that while the thought of retirement weighs on him, he remains focused on the competition.

In the women's sprint event, Lea Sophie Friedrich from Cottbus is currently leading with 55 points, positioning herself for a potential second consecutive overall victory following her success in 2023. Friedrich is ahead of Emma Hinze, who has 50 points, and Pauline Grabosch, who trails with 32 points. The three athletes recently secured a bronze medal in the team sprint at the Paris Olympics, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and talent.
