Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger Joins CDU

Fri 9th May, 2025

Karsten Wildberger, the Federal Digital Minister of Germany, has officially become a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). This development was confirmed by the North Rhine-Westphalia state association of the CDU to the press agency dpa.

Paul Ziemiak, the Secretary General of the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia, expressed his enthusiasm regarding Wildberger's decision, stating that he is pleased to welcome the minister into the party. Wildberger himself noted that North Rhine-Westphalia has long felt like home to him and that he considers the CDU to be his political home, despite not having been a member until now.

In his statement, Wildberger emphasized the importance of the CDU in bringing about a necessary political transformation in the realm of state digitization. He expressed excitement about contributing to the CDU team in North Rhine-Westphalia, alongside Minister President Hendrik Wüst, who also leads the state party.

The 55-year-old Wildberger's appointment to the federal cabinet was seen as unexpected. Before taking on his governmental role, he was the CEO of the Düsseldorf-based Ceconomy Group and the Chairman of the Management Board at Media-Saturn-Holding, remaining politically unaffiliated until now.

In light of his new party membership, Wildberger is poised to play a significant role in shaping the digital landscape of Germany through the CDU's policies and initiatives.
