Jette Nietzard Defends Position Amid Controversy Over 'ACAB' Post

Sat 31st May, 2025

Jette Nietzard, the leader of the Green Youth, has recently attracted significant attention following an Instagram post in which she wore a sweater emblazoned with the phrase 'ACAB' (All Cops Are Bastards). In light of the backlash that ensued over the weekend, Nietzard has expressed no intention of resigning or apologizing for her actions.

In an interview, she stated that the intense criticism took her by surprise, and she considers an apology to be unwarranted. Despite receiving pushback from various factions within her own party, she maintains that the situation does not warrant her stepping down from her position. Nietzard emphasized her commitment to continue leading the youth organization until her term concludes in October, hinting at more provocative discussions to come.

Nietzard articulated her perspective on the matter, describing her post as a critique of systemic issues within police forces. While she clarified that not all police officers are problematic, she noted that many people, particularly those from marginalized communities, feel apprehensive when police vehicles are nearby. She highlighted that a significant number of women who experience sexual violence do not report incidents due to fears of disbelief.

In addressing criticism from within the Green Party, Nietzard expressed concern that the party's centrist approach has failed to resonate, particularly following disappointing electoral results. She countered allegations that her post harmed the party's image by arguing that the real damage stems from how the national leadership has responded to her. Nietzard warned that such reactions could lead to a disconnect between the party and its youth wing.

This incident is not the first time Nietzard has sparked controversy with her statements. Previously, she faced backlash for comments regarding the personal life of a political figure following the collapse of the coalition government.
