A Jetstar flight heading from Bali to Melbourne was forced to return to Denpasar on Monday evening after a passenger attempted to open an emergency exit door while the aircraft was over the Indian Ocean.

The airline confirmed that the incident occurred with over 200 people on board. Reports indicate that the woman displayed disruptive behavior prior to her attempt to open the door. Jetstar stated that the aircraft had to turn back due to the alarming actions of the passenger, who reportedly became aggressive towards the flight crew.

According to various media reports, the captain of the flight addressed the situation, explaining that the alarm was triggered when the passenger lifted the door handle. The crew quickly responded to contain the situation, ensuring the safety of all passengers.

Eyewitness accounts from social media revealed that the woman had been unhappy with her seating arrangement and had previously engaged in discussions with the flight attendants before attempting to access the door. One fellow passenger intervened, physically removing her from the vicinity of the door, which was credited with averting a potential crisis.

The incident highlights the challenges airlines face in managing unruly passengers, particularly during flights. Following the diversion, the authorities at Denpasar airport took the woman into custody for further investigation.

Jetstar has reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and the importance of adhering to crew instructions during flights, emphasizing that such behavior is taken seriously and will not be tolerated.
