Tue 11th Feb, 2025

In a solemn announcement, Israel has declared Schlomo Manzur, the oldest hostage held by Hamas, to be deceased. The Israeli Army has communicated this information to Manzur's family, stating that he was reportedly murdered by the militant group shortly after his abduction on October 7, 2023. At 86 years old, Manzur was among approximately 250 individuals taken captive during a large-scale Hamas attack.

According to military officials, intelligence gathered over several months led to the conclusion that Manzur had been killed on the day of his kidnapping. His remains are believed to be held within the Gaza Strip, further complicating the ongoing crisis. The Israeli forum representing families of hostages has echoed this sentiment, asserting that their information corroborates the claim that Manzur was murdered during the initial assault.

Manzur's life story is marked by resilience; he survived a brutal pogrom against Jews in Iraq during his childhood. At the age of 13, he immigrated to Israel with his family, ultimately becoming one of the founders of Kibbutz Kissufim, located near the Gaza border. His legacy includes his wife, five children, and twelve grandchildren.

The situation remains dire, with reports indicating that 76 hostages are still being held by Hamas, while 35 others have been previously declared dead. The ongoing turmoil in the region continues to invoke fear and uncertainty as families await news of their loved ones.
